How to Start a Cosmetics Business

Industry analysis indicates that the sales of cosmetics and toiletries in the U.S. are expected to sustain a steady increase of 5-6% until at least 2010, when annual sales will top $7.6 billion. That forecast makes for optimal conditions for starting up a cosmetic business that can be run from your home.

At present, just over 50% of cosmetic and toiletry items are sold by major retailers or chains. The rest are divided amongst various beauty product specific companies as well as many independent businesses.

The very size of the market, allows for either concentrating on a particular area, or selecting several target consumers such as make-up for teens, women, those who have specific conditions, products for men, as well as natural beauty products for the health-conscious.

In operating a home business, you will need to first study the market and potential clientele in your area, and whether you want to supplement those sales with an Internet presence. You can find information not only in your local area but also by doing research online. The next choice is whether to run a business entirely on your own, including investing your own funds in stocks and sales tools, or becoming part of an established company of good reputation for their products and how they treat both customers and sales consultants.

Investigate these companies thoroughly and ensure you are happy with the products, requirements, services and have checked out their background. They may have a sales quota requirement that must be met regardless of the time of year, when by its nature, cosmetics tend to be high sellers for major gift-giving occasions so be sure to check those as well.

The cosmetics business is not one that waxes and wanes with trends, although it can be cyclical in nature as to what products, i.e. perfume, soaps, lotions, are the biggest current sellers.

Home Based Business Affiliate Marketing

It is probably one of the fastest and easiest ways to create wealth online. What is affiliate marketing? It is marketing a product or service for another company which pays you a commission each time your marketing efforts yield a sale.

Affiliate marketing, in my opinion, is probably the surest way to earning a profit online. There are hundreds if not thousands of affiliates marketing products or services every day across the internet and there are hundred times that many products and services that you can market and make a commission.

All you need is a computer, a connection to the Internet and a product. I can't help you with the first two, but I can help you with the third.

So, where do begin?

Lucky for you, I am going to help you with that problem.

The first affiliate I would like to talk about is one called Clickbank.com. Many internet marketers use them on a daily basis for their marketing efforts.

There are thousands of products that pay you a commission each time you make a sale! One of the added benefits of using an affiliate resource is that they do all the collecting of money, issuing your paychecks, and tracking your sales online. All you have to do is market the products.

Most affiliate programs track your sales via a link that is issued to you upon signup.

Once a prospective buyer clicks on your link which is displayed wherever you have decided to market it, they are sent to a sales page where you hopefully get a sale!

Two sides to being an Affiliate Marketer

There are two sides to being an affiliate marketer. One side is the publisher and the other is the affiliate. We have a clear understanding of what an affiliate is, but what is a publisher? A publisher is the provider of your products. The cool thing here is that you too can be a publisher and have others act as affiliates for you. This is a great concept when you think of the potential profits you can make when others sell your product.

As a publisher, if you create a decent product in a starving niche (more about niches later), you can make some serious money. I have yet to design a product, but after extensive research, I have discovered that the best products are being marketed by thousands of affiliates everyday, and selling.

Are you skeptical? I was at first until I met some people who were actually making money with online marketing. I realized the power and potential of making money online then and there. These guys had multiple affiliate marketing programs earning them money each day. The power of multiplication and the internet is real.

The main thing about working a home based business is that you have to treat it like anything else you do...practice, commitment and consistency will help you achieve your dreams!...and make you some money along the way!

Please stay tuned to more articles...I will be reviewing more important Internet Marketing principles in articles to come!

Your Home Based Business - What to Look for in an Affiliate Program

Trying to find an affiliate program for the new person just starting out on the Web is like walking into the proverbial Star Wars bar. There are many strange looking creatures and none have your best interest in mind. So what can you do? When you are choosing an affiliate program there are some key things to look for as you do your due diligence.

The first thing is to research the legitimacy of the business. How long has the business been in operation? Who is the principal owner? Is there contact information so you can contact him or her to verify company information. What is the company track record? What are people saying about the program? One option is to google the program or the owner name. I tried that and avoided a number of scams. Another option is to find a reputable forum and post a question about a program you are looking at. You will be surprised by the information people will give you.

Another factor is whether the affiliate charges a membership fee. Many affiliates do not, but some do and if you are new to the business, this can be a good thing. If you pay a fee, see what you are getting for the money. Do they have marketing tools to help sell the product? Is there a proprietary system that will increase your sales? Fees are not necessarily a bad thing if there is good return on your investment. Many programs that say they have a system have nothing more than a written report. Though the information may be nice to know, the report often offers nothing about HOW to implement an action plan.

Check and see how affiliate payments are disbursed. Are they monthly, bi-monthly or quarterly? Is there a minimum volume that triggers a payment. Whatever the system, make sure you understand it thoroughly before you make your decision to join.

What is the commission rate? Some affiliate programs offer a 25% commission. while others offer 75%. Some may pay a fraction of a percent on certain offerings. Generally you can get that information if you go through Clickbank or Paydotcom but make sure to get that information up front before you sign up.

See whether the affiliate offers tracking information to oversee what the conversion rate is for incoming prospects. You also want to know the number of impressions and click throughs that are being generated by your campaign. This is important because some programs pay for impressions and click throughs.

Finally, see if the program is a single tier or double tier system. A one tier pays you for the business you send to the program. A double tier pays you for the business generated by someone you have referred to the program.

These are some of the important points to understand when selecting an affiliate program. Asking the right questions up front can ensure that you will have a very prosperous experience.

Good luck and may your travels be prosperous!
